REFLECT | 'What is going on in our life right now?’
Discuss
Did you manage to implement the ONE THING you said you were going to do differently this week? Why/Why not? (Not supposed to be condemning, just an acknowledgement)
Is there an area in your life where you are finding yourself in hurry?
ENGAGE | ‘How do we engage with what God is saying to us?
Discuss
Can you imagine a stressed out Jesus? What would that have looked like?
What was Jesus’ life like?
was he ‘present’ (giving his attention) to people / was he hurried / was his schedule full
How would Jesus live if he was me?
Discuss the statement by MJC, ‘The challenge is, most of us are too busy to follow Jesus’.
Can you relate to following excuses ( remember no guilt trip. No shame. Just an honest appraisal)
That sounds great, but I just don’t have the time
Work is just really busy at the moment. I work a demanding job
I have little kids, enough said!
I’m training for a marathon
I’m not an introvert like you
……(add your own)…..
What did Jesus mean when he said, ‘seek first the kingdom of God,’ (Matthew 6v33)
John Mark Comer writes, ‘The hard truth is that following Jesus is something you do. A practice, as much as faith. At their core the practices of Jesus are about a relationship. With the God he called Father. And all relationships take time.’
Discuss the challenge that JMC leaves at the end of this chapter, ‘so I guess we come to get-on-or-get-off moment. Are you ready to construct a trellis for your vine? A schedule, a practice (or two) to create space for life with Jesus? To make room for love and joy and peace to become your default settings?
INSPIRE | - 'How do we inspire each other to ‘TRY’ something this week? What opportunities are in front of us, that we can choose to explore?’
Discuss
What ONE thing am I going to take the opportunity to ‘TRY’ this week?
Go Deeper
To reflect on this week
Over a millennium ago, monastic orders and often entire communities chose to do life together around a rule of life.
What ‘rule of life’ influences your schedule and set practices?
What do you think / feel about the word ‘Abide’ (what Jesus sees as a way to slow down, a way to live into what really matters) p.94
How are you going to ‘arrange (rearrange) your days so that Jesus’ life becomes your new normal,’ this week, as John Mark Comer suggests? (p74)
